Obviously not my car, but I'm too lazy to go outside and take a picture of it. It's a 2000 LX 470. I love it to death. I've had it for only 13 days and I have already put 1000 miles on it. I have driven many supercars, but I think that this car has to be at the top of my list.

It's so rugged and utilitarian. Working on this car is such a joy. I was fixing a couple of things with my dad over the weekend and I could've done it in the desert or in the tundra. I hope to keep this car till my son is born (which is like a long time away).

I honestly don't know why I didn't get one earlier. It seats 7 people easily. It is super comfortable. It's the ultimate Jalop car.

When buying one, if luxury comforts don't appeal to you, then get the Landcruiser. If you do like the luxury features, then I suggest the LX. Try to find something that is from the South or the Southwest. Many you'll find that have rust. Mine has rust, but its whatever. Mine has 176k miles FWIW and it runs amazing. Just please buy one or take one for a test drive.

I live in an area that is neither costal nor mountainous, but these are very popular in y area. There are probably half a dozen students at my school that drive these, either in Toyota or Lexus form. Very nice, very classy trucks, and solid as a rock.

My uncle has a '98 Landcruiser that he bought new. Probably close to 300k on the thing - he is the king of Aroostook County, Maine behind the wheel of this thing.

What did you pay for your 15 year old, 176k mile over priced/over valued-but still wonderful Toyota branded SUV?

I only ask because I am astounded that these can sell for as much as they do.

Many of the students probably had them passed down to them from their parents. Also foreign kids that come from abroad to study here also buy these because of how much of a symbol it is back home.

WOW! NP, in my area (Tennessee) you'd be looking at 15k + because people are idiots. That is still a little high in my depiction of a 15 year old, over 150k mile vehicle. I would have started him at 3500.

And the interesting thing about it is that, he probably paid 65k in 98 for the truck. And if he can get another 150k out of the car. And I know that there was minimal maintenance on it. He did very well when buying that car.

Yeah unfortunately these cars have a market that in unreal. There are dealers here asking 35k for a 100k 2006 LX470. That blows my mind. If you really want one, I suggest buying from a private party, joining the ih8mud forum. They have some fantastic deals from very good owners that took car of the vehicles. He was asking 7800, so getting him down to 5700 wasn't bad.

Those are the best. They spend their whole lives as mall cruisers with good maintenance. They've never seen mud or rock.

Yeah, theres rust on the tailgate. I contacted a couple junkyards and they have the tailgate for 500 bucks. I mean at this point in the life of the car, while rust is a problem. There's not much you can do.

I’m quite amused because I just came across this thread again, and in the 2-year interval I have myself acquired an LX470.
